The 2010 NHL Entry draft is upon us and for Trevor Timmins and his staff, they will look to additional talent to the organization, especially with the 27th and 57th overall picks For the second time in the last three years, the Habs will go into the draft with just five picks as it stands now. Last year's first round pick Louis Leblanc seemed more of a no brainer but this year at 27th, the club should have a various number of options.
Canadiens 2010 Draft Order
1st round- 27th overall
2nd round- 57th overall
4th round- 117th overall
5th round- 147th overall
7th round- 207th overall
1st Round, 27th Overall
Jaden Schwartz- C (5'10 180) Schwartz ripped up the USHL as a rookie much like Louis Leblanc did last year. In the fall he is slated for Colorado College, one of the top programs in the WCHA. The skilled center lacks in height but makes up for it with offensive skill.
Justin Faulk- RD (6'0 196) Faulk is a skilled offensive D that is making the jump to the NCAA in the fall after spending last season with the USNDTP. He will join former Hab draft pick Scott Kishel at UMD in the WCHA, a long standing program that has been on the rise the last few years.
Quinton Howden- C (6'2 183) Howden looks to be a safer pick at 27th, plays a solid two way game according to scouts and is known for his impressive foot speed, both things the current coaching staff for the Habs seem to value highly.
2nd Round, 57th Overall
Michael Bournival- C (5'11 184) Bournival is coming off a good season for the Cataractes as the sniper lacks height but has a solid compact frame which could have the Habs interested in him at this spot.
Jérôme Gauthier-Leduc- RD (6'1 181) The skililed offensvie defensemen is headed to Rimouski next season, but Leduc may not be the only person from Rouyn-Noranda that the Habs are interested in, as they could also be looking at his coach, André Tourigny who interviewed for the Hamilton job last year.
Greg McKegg- C (6'0 190) McKegg had a strong season with the Otters of the OHL, putting up 37 goals, good for second on the team.
4th Round, 117th Overall
Louis Domingue G (6'3 183) Domingue was the 13th overall pick in the 2008 QMJHL draft for the Quebec Remparts and one would think that a former all time great NHL goaltender would know something about the position as Patick Roy could be a great asset if he's still on board.
Danny Biega- RD (6'0 191) The Habs have likely seen a good bit of this Biega since he was a teammate of Leblanc's at Havard this year. Biega had a solid freshman year with 9 points in 32 games as a freshman, while getting 47 pims, second only to Leblanc.
Louis-Marc Aubry- C (6'4 193) Aubry is a big center that plays in the Habs backyard with the Juniors didn't put up great numbers but could be worth a shot as the club lacks size down the middle.
5th Round, 147th Overall
Jason Clark- LW/C (6'1 180) Clark played for Shattuck-St. Mary's in the Minnesota USHS, is said to play a power forward type of game. Will play for Wisconsin in the fall.
Kevin Lind- LD (6’3 204) Lind had a solid sophmore season in the USHL as a 17 year old, could turn into a solid two way defensmen with good offensive upside. Is head to Notre Dame in the fall.
Byran Rust- RW (6'0 191) Rust played in the USHL with the USNDTP where he was among the teams leading goal scorers, and will head to Notre Dame in the fall.
7th Round, 207th Overall
Caleb Herbert- C (5'9.5 175) Herbert played in the Minnesota USHS and will head to UMD likely in 2011, as it appears he will spend a year in the USHL to bulk up before heading to the NCAA. Had 26 goals and 55 points in 25 games, is said to be quick and very skilled with the puck.
Konrad Abeltshauser- LD (6’3 198) Abeltshauser played for Halifax as a rookie this year, if he was born two weeks later he wouldn't be draft eligible this year, could be worth taking a shot on him in the late rounds.
Michael Parks- RW (5'11 188) Parks was a teammate of Mac Bennett in the USHL, and is headed to North Dakota in 2011. Is said to play a solid hard working game.
